Practical AI that carries its share of the load.

Clear Bearing AI is a UK consultancy that works only with construction firms. We help contractors and specialist subcontractors use AI on bids, variations, compliance documents and office admin.

We start with one problem and the software you already have. AI drafts. Your people check and sign off.

For firms with around 10–250 staff.

Most of the industry hasn’t started yet

In June 2026, only 13% of UK construction businesses were using AI, compared with 58% in information and communication, according to the Office for National Statistics. That isn’t a reason to panic. It means firms that start now, carefully and on real problems, can learn what works while most of their competitors are still waiting.

Where the office hours go

Most firms don’t lack effort. The hours go on paperwork, and it tends to land on the same few people.

Bids, PQQs and SQs

The same health and safety and quality questions come up in every tender. Someone writes the answers again, usually against a deadline and on top of the day job.

Variations that never get claimed

Instructions given on site end up buried in email threads and site diaries. If nobody records them at the time, they get forgotten and never claimed.

Compliance paperwork

Every job needs RAMS and CDM documents. On higher-risk buildings, the Building Safety Act also requires ‘golden thread’ records. It all takes time and is hard to keep organised.

Information scattered everywhere

The answer is in there somewhere, maybe in an email chain, maybe in the contract. Finding it takes longer than it should.

Payment applications and admin

Applications are slow to pull together, and the same details get typed into one system after another. That’s hard to absorb when cash flow is already tight.

What we help with

AI is good at first drafts and at finding things in a pile of documents. The judgement stays with your people. We usually suggest starting with just one of these.

Bids and tenders

Spend less time rewriting the same answers and more on pricing and the questions that need real thought.

  • A library of approved answers built from your past bids
  • First drafts of PQQ, SQ and tender responses for your team to edit
  • Short bid/no-bid summaries of each tender’s scope and risks

Variations and payment applications

Record instructions and changes when they happen, so they can be priced and claimed instead of remembered months later. That record then feeds your payment applications.

  • One log of site instructions, pulled from emails and site diaries
  • Possible variations flagged for someone to review and price

Compliance documents

Take the blank page out of compliance paperwork, so competent people spend their time checking rather than typing.

  • First drafts of RAMS and other documents from your own templates
  • Records kept organised and easy to find, including golden thread information on higher-risk buildings

Project knowledge search

Ask a question in plain English and find the answer in a project’s contracts, specs and correspondence. Each answer shows which document it came from, so you can check it.

Office admin

Cut down the copying and re-keying that fills the working day.

  • Summaries and action lists from emails and meeting notes
  • Standard forms and letters filled from information you already hold

Training your team

Practical training so your office team can use AI safely and with confidence. It’s built around your own documents and tasks rather than generic demos, with simple written guidance on what AI should and shouldn’t be used for.

AI drafts. Competent people check and sign off.

Anything drafted with AI stays a draft until a competent person in your business has checked and approved it. That applies most of all to RAMS and other safety documents. AI doesn’t carry responsibility for safety or contracts. Your people do, and we build every process around that.

Start with one problem, then build on what works

No big software project. Each step shows you whether the next one is worth taking.

  1. 1

    Review

A short review of how your office and sites run day to day. We look at where the hours go and where your documents live.

  2. 2

    Pilot

One focused pilot on your biggest time sink. We agree at the start how it will be judged, so you can see for yourself whether it pays back.

  3. 3

    Roll out

Keep what works and drop what doesn’t. Then extend it to more people or projects at a pace that suits the business.

  4. 4

    Train

Train the people who’ll use it every day, with plain guidance on using it safely, so it sticks.

The bearings we work to

A bearing is a fixed direction you steer by. These are ours.

  • Your people sign off

AI produces drafts. A competent person in your business checks and approves every one. For RAMS and other safety documents, that isn’t negotiable.

  • Work with what you have

We start with the software you already pay for. If a new tool would help, we’ll explain why and what it costs before you decide.

  • One problem first

Prove the payback on one real problem before spending more. If it isn’t earning its keep, you find out on a small scale.

  • Straight talking

No jargon and no hype. If AI isn’t the right answer to a problem, we’ll tell you.

Common questions

Can’t see yours? Email hello@clearbearingai.com and ask.

Will AI replace my estimators or bid team?

No. AI is useful for first drafts and for summarising long tender documents. It isn’t good at judging risk or pricing a job, and it doesn’t know your clients.

The aim is to take repetitive work off your team so they have more time for the parts that need their experience.

What happens to our data?

Before anything is set up, we’ll explain in plain terms which tools would see your information, where it’s stored and whether it could be used to train AI models.

Where we can, we use business versions of tools with settings that stop your data being used for training. We’re happy to work alongside your IT provider, and you decide what goes in.

Do we need new software?

Usually not to start with. We begin with the software you already use. If a new tool would make a real difference, we’ll explain what it does and what it costs, and the decision is yours.

Can AI write our RAMS?

It can produce a useful first draft from your templates and past documents. It can’t visit the site, and it doesn’t replace a competent person.

Someone qualified in your business still needs to check each RAMS against the actual job and sign it off, just as they do now. Your duties under CDM don’t change.

We’re not a very digital business. Is this for us?

Yes. Plenty of construction offices run on email and spreadsheets, and that’s a good place to start. We keep things simple and work around how you already operate. Training your team is part of the job.

What does it cost?

It depends on the problem and the size of your firm, so we don’t publish prices. We’ll set out what any work would cost before you commit to it. Starting with one problem keeps the first step small.
